Let’s talk about pain. Pain has been categorized as the 5th vital sign in medicine, so Medicine has deemed that it is just as important as your; blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and temperature when getting a basic idea of how you are doing. The thing with pain is that it is subjective, meaning it is how you judge it. Some people have a high pain tolerance and others have low pain tolerance. A pain scale tool that I like is the Stanford Comparative Pain Scale, which compares things like pinching the skin in the web of your hand and placing a number value to it (4-5). How many times have you been asked to rate your pain and you have no idea? I have had several painful things happen to me, including giving birth, breaking my pelvis, and kidney stones. I can tell you without a doubt the worst pain I have felt was when they were doing x-rays of my knee Wednesday night. Pain is subjective and yet much of your treatment is based on the score you give it. Let’s talk more on pain in the next few days. For now I’m going to take a quick nap before I have to try and get dressed. https://edsinfo.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/usual-and-unusual-pain-scales/stanford-painscale/ Have a painless day 💞
