I finally got a somewhat decent night’s sleep last night, after 3 nights of little to no sleep. Why can’t I sleep? With the pain and immobility, I’m in a leg immobilizer from my groin to my ankle, which makes rolling over and trying to get comfortable nigh on impossible. The best news that keeps me going is that even though this is some of the worst pain I have ever suffered (I have had a broken pelvis, kidney stones, migraines, and a 9.2# baby), I know it is acute pain.
What is the difference between acute and chronic pain? Mainly how long they last, but also the cause. Acute pain is caused by an injury or sudden illness, such as breaking a bone, or an infection—acute pain typically lasts less than 3 months, or until the injury or illness is resolved. Acute pain can be more intense than chronic pain, but that does not make it worse. Chronic pain lasts longer than 6 months, can be milder yet more annoying than acute pain, and is typically caused by a long-term disease process such as neuropathy, migraines, shingles, or arthritis. There is also sub-acute pain which lasts 3-6 months, and bridges acute and chronic, this can happen as a chronic illness develops. While both acute and chronic pain can be debilitating, chronic pain and mental health issues have a link, they don’t cause each other, but they do affect each other and can make each other worse. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/acute-vs-chronic-pain Have a wonderful day.
Time for me to rest, if you are in the Richmond VA area, I would love support, if not there are ways to help through the Mealtrain link. I hate asking for help, but apparently, that is the lesson I am needing to learn. https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/27ndv8
