Life is sweet… Enough

It has been 7+ days since I fell and my life seems to be falling into a new normal. I don’t have any pressing concerns or insight today, so let’s head back to the 27 healthy tips.
Today’s topic is avoiding added sugar in our diet. Did you know that the average American eats 17 teaspoons of sugar a day!?! Added sugar is hidden in just about all of our prepackaged foods, our sauces, recipe ingredients, even things you wouldn’t think would have sugar in them. If they don’t have sugar they may have something worse like; High Fructose Corn Syrup, a sugar alcohol, or aspartame, which may not cause diabetes (corn syrup will) but they have been linked to neurotoxicity. When I was growing up we were warned to avoid sugar because it would “rot our teeth.” We now know that sugar is the leading cause of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver, and it is even linked to cancer.
We all need something sweet every now and then, but grab a piece of fruit, yes it has natural sugar, but it also has fiber and the chemicals to help your body process it correctly. Look for “No Sweetener Added” rather than “No Sugar.” Reach for the whole grain alternatives, and whenever possible cook at home. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/27-health-and-nutrition-tips#sugar and https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/too-much-sugar
