The Ego according to Freud is the mediator between the baser needs of the Id and the elevated restraint of the Superego. So basically without the Ego, nothing would get done, or at least not in any sane manner. The ego helps to ensure that the baser needs are met, while at the sametime balancing those needs with the moral constraints of society. The stronger and more balanced the Ego the more constrained and emotionally balanced the person.
If you think of the comic book character Venom as a perfect example of the Id, then Eddie Brock is the Ego. I think it is interesting that as a society we describe someone who does not have a well balanced Ego as being Egotisical, or ‘Having a big Ego,’ when in actuality they have a small and weak Ego. Think about it? If you have a strong and well balanced Ego than you emotionally and mentally well-balanced, whereas if you have a small and poorly balanced Ego you allow your Id to control your selfish and self-centered behavior. Yet again Freud’s concept is not the deepest or perfect concept, but it is a good starting point and it gives room for thought. https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-the-ego-2795167 Have a wonderful day
