Emotion vs State of Being

First thing I need to say to one of my Besties is, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Stay Crazy! 😜
Have you ever contemplated the difference between an ‘emotion’ and a ‘state of being?’ They are actually different and that difference is important. As I hinted at yesterday I feel that living a life full of positive ‘States of Being’ is a large part of the meaning of life. That is just My theory, and I said “Part Of,” there are several parts to the ‘Meaning of Life.’
An Emotion is defined by the Oxford dictionary as “a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.” When I googled “State of Being” the definition that I hold true did not pop up. Hmm, I wonder where I got it from? Did I conceive this all on my own? I seriously doubt that. Follow me down a short rabbit hole while I explain my theory (that I am sure is not uniquely mine). My definition for a “State of Being” is part of your current emotional make-up, for instance think of the difference between being Sad and Being Depressed. Sad is defined as “feeling or showing sorrow; unhappy” and Depressed is defined as “(of a person) in a state of general unhappiness or despondency.” I have been depressed and yet able to laugh at something incredibly funny, that does not end my underlying depression. Whereas if I am sad and you get me laughing, my sadness will lessen. An emotion is a short lived circumstance, a “state of being” is a long-term underlying mental and spiritual status.
I hope that makes sense, for me the understanding of the difference between the two has been LIFE CHANGING. Let’s look at it deeper tomorrow, for now I am off to pay my bills. 🥺💁🏼‍♀️
Have a wonderful day. 💞
