First, I want to apologize, even though this web based blog is new, I have been sending out the text version for over a year and a half and the quote for several years. Yesterday was the first day I missed. I was just too exhausted, bodily, mentally, and emotionally. The pain this weekend coupled with almost three weeks of crappy sleep just caught up with me. I just didn’t have anything to give yesterday.
So let’s talk about the connection between pain and fatigue. There is a connection, a big connection. I know for myself that one of the triggers for my migraines is not enough sleep. Pain and Fatigue not only cause each other, they worsen each other. When your muscles and soft tissues are tired they don’t stretch, they tear. This is why if you are getting ready to do a workout you are supposed to “warm” them up. When soft tissues tear, the body triggers an immune response or inflammation, which causes swelling and pain. That takes energy which then causes fatigue. Then you try to rest and you just can’t get comfortable, so you sleep fitfully.
Here is the kicker, your body heals best when you are in the phase of sleep known as Deep Sleep, but it is very hard to get there if you are uncomfortable. Sleep aids and pain medications will help, but they don’t always help you to get to the deep sleep phase. Some herbals such as melatonin, magnesium, and ashwaganda can help, but again they don’t always get you there. Tylenol PM combines a pain reliever with a sleep aid, that yet again can help, but… I sound like a broken record. The best things are a healthy diet, avoiding nicotine, and alcohol, gently exercise (think of physical therapy or yoga), and using good Sleep Hygiene.
Yesterday, I did a whole lot of nothing and I am doing a little better today. My surrogate Mom is on the way over with lunch, and after she leaves I will be taking a nap.
One last thing before I go, I don’t care who you vote for, Just Vote! Have a great day 💞
